Parents: Don't let education kill creativity

Mr. Stanley C. Yen, Chairman of The Alliance Cultural Foundation, urges parents not to kill their child's creativity through traditional education. Rather, parents should be the guiding light to uncovering and nurturing their child's innate talent.

嚴長壽:家長別扼殺孩子天賦

公益平台文化基金會董事長嚴長壽今天上午受邀到中研院院士季會演講,談到教育問題,認為家長應該醒醒吧!別再成為扼殺孩子天賦的殺手,家長扮演的角色應該是孩子的探照燈,幫孩子找尋未來的路,但台灣的家長卻是想要孩子跟隨自己曾經走過的路。

嚴長壽笑說,自己僅有基隆高中畢業的學歷,到中研院演講是班門弄斧,只能用庶民的角度分享經驗,但中研院院士彭汪嘉康則是直接提問:「當年沒有擠進大學窄門時,如何向父母交代?」

嚴長壽則是妙答:「我是家中學歷最高的小孩,而且我父親一度出家習佛,對孩子都採取放任的態度。」雖然兄弟的學歷都不高,但嚴長壽表示,他的大哥已經80歲依舊熱心公益活動,一家人都很「雞婆」,總是想著要對社會多做一點事。

嚴長壽話鋒一轉,認為過去因為時空背景,讓台灣出現填鴨式的教育,也因此台灣成為代工王國;但未來台灣需要創新能力,填鴨式有標準答案的教法已經不敷使用,老師應該要培養學生思辨的能力,因為等到大學才來思辨,已經來不及和中國大陸或印度學生競爭。

中研院院士、中國醫藥大學校長李文華也發言批評,教育部真的管太多,管的事情多如牛毛,應該要好好改一改。嚴長壽進一步指出,過去曾經阻止高雄餐旅大學升格,因為學餐飲不需要戴高帽子,而是要專精在餐飲服務上頭,應該學瑞士洛桑,而不是成為知名的大學。

嚴長壽感嘆,但事情已經發生,就該往前看,只能建議大學教授們應該多參與實務,並帶著學生學習發掘問題,並學會如何解決問題。最後嚴長壽強調,台灣真的需要改變,過去是跟著前人路走,現在要想辦法走出自己的路,這只是轉念之間。
