The Alliance Cultural Foundation International (ACFI)
Founded in 2009, The Alliance Cultural Foundation (ACF) works with partners to uplift the education of rural Hualien-Taitung (Huatung) region of Taiwan, empowering its youths to envision the possibility of a different future.

We believe in...
Redefining Education & Empowering the Youth
by taking the lead in experimental education

We try a different approach to education through Junyi School of Innovation (1-12), providing full scholarships to underprivileged children, valuing innovative teaching methods which emphasize on developing children in not only academics, but creativity through the arts, humanities, as well as developing good character, values, independent thinking in a bilingual multi-cultural environment. We hope to inspire children through connected learning, internationalized curriculum, whilst integrating Waldorf education’s humanistic approach. We also develop vocational programs integrating the knowhow of teachers and professionals to implement most current demands of the job market into the curriculum, and programs that are relative to the sustainable development of Huatung – to provide its youths with the necessary skills to work and become productive citizens who can participate in the region’s growth, while maintaining its identity and culture.

We believe in…
Empowering the Educator
by supporting reformers as well as give opportunity for re-education

We believe the key to redefining education is to empower the educator; to empower them to shift from the role of the teacher to the role of the facilitator. We support education reformers and act as a platform that encourages and helps widespread innovative teaching methods worldwide. Through Junyi Centre for Teaching and Learning (JCTL), a knowledge platform we’ve created for educators which centres on Waldorf education, STEAM education, innovative teaching, the arts & humanities, and character development, we encourage educators to innovate while keeping a student-centred learning in mind, and to come together to exchange ideas. We give opportunity for educators to continue to improve, to become better educators for students to have a competitive chance for a better future.

We believe in…
Inspiring Talents
by creating diverse learning atmospheres through thematic camps

Huatung aborigines have an innate sense of colour and rhythm, and are gifted in the arts and music; however, due to a lack of resources, opportunities, talents remain hidden and lost. Through our thematic camps based on themes ranging from animation design, industrial design, chorale music and the Huatung English camp, we hope to widen horizons of elementary to high school students, to inspire learning motivations, to discover personal talents and establish basic skills, empowering the courage to grow beyond imaginations. We believe in a strong volunteer training culture which focuses on building a team of youths who are passionate about education in Huatung, in hopes of developing dynamic leaders with the vision to tackle local issues, continuously improve and transform rural education.

We believe in…
Empowering the Indigenous Communities
by providing opportunity for further education through scholarships and other initiatives

As the origin of the Austronesian family, Taiwan’s indigenous communities have struggled to preserve its rich diversity of cultures, with the core reasoning being that the aboriginal perspective is not embedded to the Taiwan curriculum. We give opportunities for the Taiwan natives to engage with other indigenous communities overseas in hopes to inspire and widen their knowledge, and of the importance Taiwan plays in the Austronesian culture. In sharing their own unique cultures, we hope they will rediscover Huatung’s beauty and allure for international tourists marking the beginning of change in creating a sustainable future in their communities.

We believe in…
Building a future for the people of Huatung
by nurturing existing businesses to help provide employment opportunities and reduce rural and urban migration

In August 2009, after Typhoon Morakot devastated Huatung, many religious and charity organizations rushed to aid disaster stricken areas with abundant donations of money and supplies. These resources only alleviated the problems superficially and did not provide long term solutions for Huatung residents to have a sustainable future. In our effort to help the recovery of its economy, we identified potential local businesses and people who have the talent and ability to rise to set an example for the communities. We effectively pooled resources, and brought influencers into the region – from government officials to journalists whether domestic or international. Our role was to be the pioneer who will experiment with alternative solutions to develop successful models to support sustainable economic development in the region. Three years on, although the situation in the villages have improved, it was not enough to uplift the region. We believe that in order to achieve true empowerment and sustainable change for the region, that education sits at the core, and have since shifted our focus to education.
