Taiwan Connection Music Festival
Just as a monk develops his spirituality over time, "Taiwan Connection" (“TC”) seeks to make classical music accessible to Taiwan “one note at a time”.
Thanks to the dedication of Taiwan’s overseas musicians, the generous sponsorship of business and civic groups, and the enthusiasm of the general public, the TC festival has come a long way. From National Symphony Halls to small auditoriums in remote villages, acclaimed international musicians play for the hometown folks. After eight years, TC Festival is one of the most successful music event in Taiwan.
TC Festival was co-founded in 2004 by Nai-Yuan Hu, a world-renowned violinist and Mr. Yen, Chairman of Alliance. The festival brings back to Taiwan accomplished Taiwanese classical musicians to delight their audience with beautiful chamber music.
“Beethoven's Fifth Symphony in C Minor” was TC Festival’s theme in 2011. Musicians and audience were inspired by Beethoven’s ability to overcome challenges by composing some of his greatest work after he became deaf.
The performance was "conductor-less," or as many musicians prefer to call it, a "musician-led" performance, with Mr. Hu playing and leading the forty musicians whom he had assembled. Mr. Hu said, "After years as a soloist, I have the privilege of joining forces with outstanding musicians to make music in Taiwan. The quest to find the ultimate harmony thrilled and re-energized all of us. I encourage everyone to let music transcend whatever fate deals us."
In addition to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, the program included Mozart's overture from the opera Don Giovanni and other dynamic and emotionally-charged music. The performance left no doubt that audience and musicians were connected. After one of the concerts, Mr. Hu shared stories from his journey in music with students and teachers of Taidong University's College of Humanities.
We want to thank all volunteers and our generous sponsors who shared TC Festival’s mission and made the eight TC concerts possible.
