Art Alliance
The Alliance Cultural Foundation (ACF) in partnership with American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) launched Art Alliance, a bilingual (English and Chinese) website, in effort to help indigenous handicraft artists and workshops in the Hualien and Taitung (Huatung) region of Taiwan to promote and showcase their artwork via the internet. The website features an array of products, including handbags, fabric, pottery, furniture, and accessories with Aboriginal designs. It aims to help promote businesses of people living in remote areas, and to globally introduce the beauty of Huatung’s indigenous arts and crafts and to showcase the impressive cultural and creative power of the region, and thereby encouraging the public to appreciate the charm of indigenous artwork.
For Taiwan, indigenous tribes not only play an important role in the island’s historic transformation, but are also seen as a precious, irreplaceable aspect of Taiwan itself. The rugged and somewhat mysterious quality of indigenous art has long been the source of inspiration for artists in modern times. In recent years, many indigenous artists have begun to employ new techniques and creativity to blend representative elements of their culture into the design and formation of their artwork, using aspects such as ancient crafts, totems, music, dance, and legends. They developed an originality that both embraces the spirit of indigenous culture and presents a more diverse, lively facet while still communicating the value of the artists' indigenous culture.
ACF aims for Art Alliance to stand as a successful online platform which will help promote the richness of the art and culture of the East Coast internationally.
