B&B Management Program
Launched in 2013, the Bed and Breakfast (B&B) Management Program at Yu-Jen High School (YJSHS) was first initiated by The Alliance Cultural Foundation (ACF) in an effort to help children rediscover their self-confidence, and to provide them employment training which may help expand their future career opportunities.
The B&B Management Program offers a curriculum designed by Patrick Su, a Professor at National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (HKUHT) with over 30 years of experience in hospitality. The curriculum focuses on experiential learning for grade 11 and 12 students. ACF’s key role is to connect the students with hospitality professionals who may become mentors/advisors to the students in their career pursuits.
The program teaches operation of B&B, housekeeping management, restaurant service etiquette, menu development, ecotourism planning and guiding, and more. Students are provided training opportunities at the Coconut Beach B&B; and on occasion, HKUHT culinary instructors are invited to share their expertise on creating unique menus using local ingredients.
B&B Management Program aims to offer students a positive direction in life, as well as to play a vital role in developing hospitality professionals locally. Through the program, ACF hopes to provide students the ability to manage or run a successful and sustainable local business, and more importantly, to be able to remain in their hometown and help foster its growth.
“Thanks to the effort of The Alliance, we are able to provide children with a well-rounded education and professional skillset which will open doors to their future.” – Junyi Xiao, Division Director, YJSHS
“We started the program with the attitude of nearly giving up on our own futures. Through the B&B Management Program, we gained a sense of achievement and purpose, and step by step we grew. Thank you for bringing meaning to our lives.” – Meixin Dong, Grade 12, YJSHS
