Pakelang B&B
There is an interesting story behind every innkeeper. These innkeepers’ life stories and their passion have become part of Taidong’s unique charm.
In 2011, Alliance selected "Pakelang B&B” as the first project to receive its business advisory service in its effort to encourage aborigines to return to Taidong to start their own tourism business.
Pakelang B&B is located in beautiful Fengbin County on the border of Taidong and Hualien. Its spectacular Pacific Ocean view and unique architectural design received many accolade upon opening as a restaurant in 2001. The following year, it transformed itself into a bed and breakfast inn as part of Taidong government’s promotion of the B&B sector. However in recent years, as new B&Bs are built, Pakelang B&B lost its competitive edge due to insufficient management experience.
In 2010, The Lovely Taiwan Foundation helped Pakelang B&B achieve recognition from the Taiwan Tourism Bureau as an important tourism landmark in Eastern Taiwan. Mr. Yao-Zhong Chen, a renowned aborigine chef, and his creative cuisine as well as the unique setting of the boathouse, have made Pakelang B&B an important part of Huadong experiential tours again.
Alliance, in conjunction with the Lovely Taiwan Foundation, hopes to promote experiential tourism in the Da Gang Kou Tribal area with Pakelang B&B as a focal point of the tour. Ha Wan the owner of Pakelang B&B is grateful for the advice and support received and hopes these efforts will help bring vibrancy to his Amis Tribal Culture.
