"Giving New Life to the Old" Art Workshop
The Alliance Cultural Foundation (ACF) invites artists Wei-Bin Hsu, known for his inspirational art created from pieces of garbage, along with renowned porcelain artist, Shih-Mei Tsao, to conduct the “Giving New Life to the Old” art workshop at Kung-Tung Technical Senior High School (KTTSHS). The 21-day workshop involved 20 students, aiming to inspire and demonstrate how to create art from garbage, and to transform the unexpected into beauty.
Throughout the 21 days, students were exposed to an array of abandoned materials. They went to landfills as well as KTTSHS’ training workshop to collect pieces of garbage, screws, blocks of cement, shards of glass, used tires, broken branches – objects that they wanted to create art with. While Wei-Bin Hsu taught children to craft art out of garbage, Shih-Mei Tsao showed them how to incorporate pieces of porcelain to these works. The workshop aims to inspire children to see beauty in a different light, to understand that art has no limits, and to bring out their innate artistic and creative talents.
Wei-Bin Hsu, an artist who started out in life achieving a medical degree, later chose to follow his heart to pursue art. After learning and exploring art for 20 years in America, he returned to Taiwan, in hopes to give back to the community, to share his knowledge, and to inspire the youth.
