Sushi Making Workshop
Taidong is known for its Chi-shang rice and fresh fish. When the two ingredients are combined, the most unforgettably delicious sushi is created.
One of Alliance’s missions is to provide a bridge between school and employment opportunities for Taidong youth. In 2011, Alliance engaged Mr. Zhang Ming-Tong, an award winning sushi chef, to work with students from the Cheng Kung Aquaculture High School. Chef Zhang taught the students the skill and art of making sushi. He expanded their minds and inspired them to combine special ingredients with fresh local ingredients to develop a cuisine that is uniquely Taidong. Alliance also invited professional restaurant managers from the Da Yi Ritz Hotel to teach the students basic skills needed to work in a restaurant, i.e. setting tables, service attitude, basic manners and common etiquette. Students were given internship opportunities at the Cheng Kung Fish Restaurant after their training.
Alliance hopes the skills acquired by the students can be passed on to others in the community, thereby raising the culinary standards in Taidong to better attract tourists. By promoting Taidong’s delicious sushi, Alliance hopes to create employment opportunities in restaurants that serve tourists.
