Travel Alliance
For the past three years, The Alliance Cultural Foundation (ACF) has been fervently promoting slow travel in the Huatung (Taitung and Hualien) region of Taiwan. The Huatung region, located in the mountainous eastern part of Taiwan is known for its unsurpassed natural beauty and lack of accessibility. Due to its location, its pristine sites and unique workshops are often undiscovered and unknown to visitors, unless partaking in ACF’s slow travel tour.
In effort to increase exposure to the many hidden sites in Huatung, ACF first created a travel guidebook, which eventually led to the establishment of Travel Alliance. Travel Alliance, launched in June 2013, is an online travel guide which offers tourism and travel information for the East Coast. The website not only reaches out to a surplus of readers, but also allows unlimited access for anyone at any time who is interested in traveling to Huatung. Through a collaborated effort of ACF’s dedicated volunteers, Travel Alliance consolidates travel information, blog articles, as well as suggested slow travel routes. Through the travel routes, visitors have the option to follow ACF’s recommended tours, or to create their own desired route.
Travel Alliance is currently an ongoing project. ACF will continually expand and introduce new sites, aiming to offer the most up-to-date slow travel destination information to independent travelers.
About Slow Travel
Slow travel is not so much a particular mode of transportation as it is a mindset. Rather than attempting to squeeze as many sights or cities into each trip, the slow traveler takes the time to explore each destination thoroughly and to experience the local culture. Per the slow travel philosophy, it's more important to get to know one small area well than it is to see only a little bit of many different areas. Slow travel is traveling more slowly allowing you to form a stronger connection to the place you're visiting.
