International Hospitality and Tourism at Junyi School of Innovation

The course of International Hospitality and Tourism at Junyi School of Innovation plays an important role in cultivating living and social skills. It includes Food & Beverage Operations, Restaurant Services, Healthy Diets, and B&B Management. To Mr. Yen, hospitality is not only a course, but it also allows people to understand one another, and it is a good way to interact with others.

​The beginning

​To prepare for the courses in hospitality, Mr. Yen first held a “
gratitude & appreciation dinner” in 2016, and since then, this dinner has become a tradition at Junyi. From cooking to service and from preparation to entertainment in this banquet are all conducted and performed by students. The courses officially started in 2018. Space in the school kitchens was made for a western-style kitchen and a baking classroom. Professionals from hotels and B&Bs were invited to teach different classes. Students will learn to cultivate their living abilities, cooking skills, baking techniques, serving etiquette, and how to organize and decorate a banquet. ​

What students have learned from the courses

One of the students in this course, Sapphire Lin was in charge of coordinating in the gratitude & appreciation dinner of 2019. That was huge pressure on Sapphire. At first, she felt frustrated when giving out tasks to classmates; however, after communicating with them, she found out that the most efficient way to work with others was delivering the whole picture and coordinating all the details with others. Another student, Alen Chang took responsibility for the pantry room. He always keeps the tableware and the kitchen nice and clean and also reminds others to keep this in mind. This course not only taught him new knowledge but also led him to discover his own personality traits. ​

Reset the mindset
Besides all the skills students learned from this course, a good mindset is another valuable thing that they gained. Some students went to do an intern in one of the B&Bs in Taitung, which is Coconut Beach. Though they are interns, they work as real housekeepers and learn to shoulder the responsibility. Through this experience, they also learned to put themselves in others' shoes and gained more awareness for things such as: being on time.


The goal of this course is not to turn students into chefs or service professionals, but to develop living skills. They also learned valuable lessons such as being considerate and showing respect toward professionals from various fields. After these experiences, no matter what job they get in the future, these students will definitely stand out.
